New Covenant Foundation began in August of 2001. The founders, Mike Stemm and Craig Meredith, returned from a trip to Ethiopia where they had been asked to do a business assessment. Ethiopian church leaders were concerned that foreign economic aid was killing their children. They had become dependent on it. The Ethiopian churches had a deep burden for their people to know Jesus Christ, but they did not have the funds to send their own people, trained in their own Bible schools. They did not want long term assistance, but help in figuring out how to support these church planters on their own and from their own resources. The basic premise was to stand hand-in-hand in partnership, helping the Ethiopian churches grow into the ability to locally support their own church planters.
