Yirgacheffe Coffee
"Yirgacheffe Coffee is from the land where coffee was discovered"
More than 1,000 years ago coffee was discovered in the southwestern highlands of the province of Kaffa. Since then, coffea arabica has been cultivated in the forest highlands of Ethiopia. Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee and from there has spread throughout the world. The word "coffee" came into the English language around 1700.
Yirgacheffe coffee is grown in the heart of the Rift Valley in Ethiopia. It is successfully grown at high altitudes near the equator where the days are warm and the nights are cool. This slows the maturing process of the cherry and adds to the rich, full-bodied acidity that is cherished in a fine coffee. This wet processed (or “washed”) coffee is one of the most exotic coffees you will find. The flavor is complex, with notes of chocolate and lemon peel, a full body and an orchid aroma.
Most of the farmers in the Yirgacheffe region belong to the Kale Hewot church. They are known for their careful attention to their coffee plants and their smiling faces as they sing songs of Jesus while they work.
You can purchase this and other fine Ethiopian coffees at Dominion Trading
